There is a Sormovskiy recreation park in Sormovskiy district.

It is a big park with the pine forest, a small river, a beach, a set of attractions and other entertainments for children and adults. At the beginning of the 20th century revolutionary workers gathered in Sormovo and held the meetings. Pyotr Zalomov – Pavel Vlasov's prototype, the hero of the novel by Maxim Gorky “Mother” – made a speech there.

It was actually a marshy site near a pinery. The Opening ceremony took place in 1935. The workers of the local plants took part in the construction. The park has regular landscape planning. You’ll see relic pines, oaks, lindens, elms, birches and larches. In the center there is a big lake. There are walking paths which are also used for cycling or jogging.

The Park is also a wonderful place for children. There are attractions, a small aqua park and a zoo. Do get some rest from the noise of a big city there!

Notes:

You can find Recreational Park Pervogo Maya (The 1st of May) in Kanavinskiy district of Nizhny Novgorod**. It is one of the oldest parks in the city, founded in 1894.

It is easy to reach: the park is near the Chkalovskaya metro station.

There are 5 free playgrounds for small children in the park. You can find a dolphinarium, an «Upside Down» attraction house, fear and mirror labyrinths and other attractions.

There are picnic and barbecue areas for family or team celebrations. Child animators and theater performers can be found at the central square of the park at the weekends and on public holidays. In winter time the skating rink «Severnoye Siyanie» («Polar lights») is built in the central square. There is also a family entertainment center ‘Madagascar’.

** Pervoye maya (the 1st of May) – is the holiday of labor celebrated in some countries of the world. It is a day off and a state holiday in Russia.

There is “Avtozavodsky recreation park” in the Avtozavodsky district It is a typical park of Soviet period which actively developed in the 30-50th years of the XX century.

The total area of the park is 73.6 hectares. There are more than 13000 durable trees: ash-trees, lindens, elms, all planted in the middle of the last century. There are more than 30,000 square meters of asphalt paths and sidewalks across the territory of the park. Big flower beds of different forms are located at an entrance. From early spring to late autumn they remind a bright flower carpet.

It is nice to walk, enjoy silence and tranquility there. In the summer and in the winter various celebrations are arranged. These days the park is changing: there are stores selling balloons and sweets, musicians and actors are playing on stage, attractions are on, multi-colored small lamps are lit in the evening.

Notes:

Priokskiy district is famous for its “Shweitsaria” (Switzerland) park. The park was built in 1902. It extends 4 kilometres along the high bank of the Oka River. The wonderful view opens from the river bank, you can see the districts which are in the lower part of the city ***. The oak, linden, birch, maple, larch grow in the park, there are also pines and poplars as well as rare types of trees: red oak, Ginnal's maple, Manchurian walnut, Amur cork tree, horse chestnut, bird cherry, Pennsylvanian cherry, some kinds of hawthorn. 

Every day a great number of visitors come to the park: children accompanied by parents, youth and elderly people. Everyone can find an entertainment. People can ride bikes, go roller blading and ride scooters, play badminton, tennis and other games. Children love attractions, the number of which is enormous.

You can hardly find an empty bench in the shade of the trees in summer! People relax on the slope or on the lawn; they read books, sunbathe and enjoy fresh air. Many of them take photos on the picturesque bank of the Oka River.

You can enjoy a delicious meal in the park as there are lots of cafes and restaurants there.
